Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL-2XL nymph/wet (Daiichi 1530), 8-10
  • Thread Fluorescent orange 6/0

Materials

  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (Medium mono eyes)
  • Tail Natural grizzly saddle hackles (Mini marabou, short)
  • Wingcase/back Mottled thin skin (Thin Skin strip)
  • Body Fluorescent orange/pink sighter material (Estaz)
  • Legs Teal/mallard (Flank fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lash the black mono eyes just behind the hook eye.
  2. At the bend tie in a short grizzly mini-marabou tail.
  3. Tie in a strip of mottled Thin Skin at the bend to become the back.
  4. Wrap the fluorescent orange (or pink) Estaz forward to behind the mono eyes.
  5. Pull the Thin Skin over the top as a wingcase/back and tie it down behind the eyes.
  6. Tie in teal or mallard flank fibers sweeping to the sides as legs, then whip finish at the eye.
