Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry / emerger, 14-20
  • Thread Adams gray 8/0

Materials

  • Trailing shuck Amber vinyl rib medium (Zelon or marabou fibers)
  • Abdomen Olive/gray material (Fine dubbing)
  • Wing Natural dun wing bud (Deer hair or CDC tuft, upright)
  • Hackle Grizzly/dun hackle (One feather)
  • Thorax Olive/gray material (Dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and tie in a curved amber trailing shuck at the bend to suggest the nymphal skin the dun is stuck in.
  2. Dub a slim abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  3. Tie in an upright deer-hair or CDC wing tuft at the thorax.
  4. Wind 4-5 turns of hackle around the wing base.
  5. Dub a compact thorax, figure-8 around the wing, and sweep hackle to sit the fly low.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye.
