Reference Recipe
- Hook 2XL dry fly, 8-12
- Thread Black 6/0
Materials
- Body Black ostrich herl (2mm foam strip or black dubbing)
- Underbody Black ostrich herl (Dubbing)
- Wing Black ostrich herl (Deer or elk hair, down-wing)
- Legs Black ostrich herl (Round rubber legs)
- Sighter Orange permanent marker (Poly yarn post)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and start thread; if using foam, bind a black foam strip at the bend.
- Dub a sparse black underbody forward to the 70% mark, half the dubbing you think.
- Tie a black deer-hair down-wing over the body reaching to the bend, tips flared.
- Add rubber legs figure-8 on each side at the wing base.
- Tie a small upright tuft of orange poly at the head as a hi-vis sighter, then trim.
- Whip finish behind the eye.
