Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Salmon single (up-eye), 4 (range 4-10)
  • Thread Red Veevus A / 8/0

Materials

  • Mylar tinsel Silver oval tinsel (Tag)
  • Floss Chinese red (Butt)
  • Oval tinsel Silver (small) (Rib)
  • Seal fur (or substitute) dubbing Fluorescent green / chartreuse seal fur or substitute dubbing (Body)
  • Saddle hackle Green (fluorescent if available) (1 feather for collar)
  • Gray squirrel tail Natural deer hair (Sparse, for wing)

How to tie it

  1. Start the red thread and stop just short of the hook point; tie in silver mylar and wind a long tag.
  2. Tie a butt of Chinese red floss over the silver tag (the mylar under the floss keeps the red bright and stops bleed-through).
  3. Tie in the small silver oval rib at the front of the butt.
  4. Wax the thread and dub a slim body of fluorescent green seal fur forward to just short of the eye.
  5. Rib the body with the silver oval in evenly spaced open turns and tie off.
  6. Tie in a short, sparse wing of stacked gray squirrel reaching back to about the tag (low-water style), using a couple of soft wraps to keep it low.
  7. Tie in a green saddle hackle and wind a backward-swept collar, sweeping barbs back with each turn; whip finish and add head cement (UV).
