Topwater · Striped Bass · Bluefish · Jack · Tarpon · Snook · Redfish · False Albacore · Beginner · 1 version
Classic Recipe
- Hook Saltwater hook, 1/0-4
- Thread None (folded foam)
Materials
- Body Folded foam sheet (1 piece)
- Tail Bucktail or flash (sparse)
- Eyes Stick-on (1 pair)
How to tie it
- Cut a fish-shaped piece of sheet foam, like a rounded arrowhead.
- Tie a sparse bucktail-and-flash tail onto the rear of the shank.
- Fold the foam over the shank, creasing it into a wedge with an open, cupped face at the front, and glue it closed along the shank.
- Stick on eyes and color the back with markers.
- The cupped fold at the front is the whole engine. It spits water on every strip.
Substitutions
- Body instead of Folded foam sheet: 2mm craft foam — Standard foam for crease flies; Fly Foam — Specifically made for fly tying
- Tail instead of Bucktail or flash: EP Fibers — Sparser, dries fast; Flashabou only — Minimal, flashy tail
