Materials

  • Eyes Lead (Heavy dumbbell (on top, rides point-up))
  • Antennae Tan carapace (Rubber / Krystal Flash)
  • Claws Cream/tan material (Two splayed rabbit strips or pheasant tips)
  • Shellback Mottled tan thin skin turkey (Thin Skin)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Fine wire)
  • Body Cream/tan material (Buggy dubbing)
  • Legs Barred tan rubber legs (Rubber legs)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lash the heavy dumbbell eyes on top near the eye so the fly rides hook-up.
  2. At the bend tie in a few tan antennae, then two splayed cream claws pointing rearward.
  3. Tie in the Thin Skin shellback and copper wire rib at the bend.
  4. Dub a full cream-tan body forward, figure-8 around the eyes, and stop behind the hook eye.
  5. Add barred rubber legs figure-8 at the midpoint.
  6. Pull the shellback over and rib forward in 5 turns, tie off behind the eyes.
  7. Whip finish and pick out the dubbing for a leggy look.
