Shrimp · Bonefish · Permit · Redfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard saltwater, straight-eye (TMC 811S / Mustad 34007), 4-8
  • Thread White 6/0

Materials

  • Eyes Lead (Medium lead dumbbell (heavy, for fast sink))
  • Body Silver metal tape (Flat mylar tinsel)
  • Overbody Clear head cement (V-rib or clear mono)
  • Wing White uni stretch (Sparse calf tail or craft fur)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (2-4 strands Krystal Flash)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lash the lead dumbbell eyes on top of the shank a third back from the eye so the fly rides point-up.
  2. Wrap a flat silver tinsel body from behind the eyes down to the bend and back.
  3. Overwrap with clear V-rib or mono for a durable, glassy segmented shine and tie off behind the eyes.
  4. In front of the eyes, tie a sparse white wing that reaches just past the bend, adding a few strands of pearl flash.
  5. The wing rides over the point and helps the fly run hook-up and weed-resistant.
  6. Build a neat thread head and whip finish.
