Classic Recipe
- Hook saltwater hook (Tiemco 811S / Mustad 34007), 2-6
- Thread to match body (tan, white, pink, chartreuse) 6/0 (UNI)
Materials
- Eyes Medium/large brass or lead bead-chain (or dumbbell) eyes (1 pair)
- Underbody/Flash Pearl or gold Krystal Flash (6-8 strands)
- Overbody Clear D-rib or Larva Lace (1 length)
- Wing Tan or white calf tail (sparse) (small bunch)
- Wing flash Pearl Krystal Flash (2-4 strands)
How to tie it
- Tie heavy brass bead-chain or dumbbell eyes on top of the shank a short way behind the hook eye so the fly rides point-up and sinks fast.
- Run the thread to the bend and tie in a bunch of Krystal Flash and a strand of clear D-rib.
- Wrap the Krystal Flash forward for a flashy underbody, figure-eight around the eyes, and tie off.
- Rib the clear D-rib forward over the flash in even turns for a translucent segmented shell and tie off at the head.
- Tie in a sparse calf-tail wing that sweeps back over the point, add a couple strands of pearl flash.
- Whip finish a tidy head and add a drop of head cement.
