Hook TMC 800S saltwater (heavy wire, for the deep-water version), 4
Thread White FlyMaster Plus 3/0 (210 denier)
Materials
Lead wire - (Half inch of 0.030")
Pearl Mylar tinsel Pearl, large (5-6 inches for underbody)
Vinyl rib Clear, large (One length for overbody)
Bead chain eyes Gold or silver, medium dumbbell eyes (One pair)
Krystal Flash Pearl flashabou (About 8 strands for underbeard)
Polar bear hair (or white substitute) White uni stretch (Small cleaned clump for overbeard)
How to tie it
Lay a solid thread foundation along the shank, then bind a half-inch piece of 0.030" lead wire along the top rear of the shank with soft loops, flattening the thread over it.
Tie in 5-6 inches of large pearl Mylar tinsel at the rear of the lead.
Taper the stubby end of a piece of large clear vinyl rib to a point with your scissors and tie that point in at the rear so it seats cleanly.
Bring the thread to the eye, then wrap the pearl Mylar forward over the lead to form the underbody, this gives the fly its mother-of-pearl flash, and tie off.
Wrap the clear vinyl rib tightly forward over the Mylar in touching turns to create a large segmented body; tie off behind the eye.
Figure-eight a pair of medium metal bead chain eyes (gold or silver) on top of the shank behind the eye.
Reverse the hook in the vise, tie in about eight strands of pearl Krystal Flash as an underbeard, and trim it about a quarter inch past the hook bend.
Tie a slightly longer clump of cleaned white polar bear hair over the flash as the overbeard.
Build a neat head, whip finish, and coat with thinned Flexament on a needle tip.
