Materials

  • Hackle #Whitingfarms American Hackle Rooster Orange grizzly
  • Large Antenna #harelinedubbin Grizzly legs
  • Antennule/Legs Voodoo Fibers
  • Claws/Body Rabbit strips
  • Shell/Tail fin Tab rubber legs
  • Ribbing of Abdomen 20-30 lb mono

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lash the lead eyes on top near the eye so the fly inverts and rides claws-up.
  2. At the bend, add a few wraps of mono along the rear of the shank. This bit of weight at the tail makes the fly settle in a defensive claws-up attack posture on the bottom.
  3. Tie in 5-6 folded rubber legs as antennae and two splayed exo-skin claws facing rearward.
  4. Tie in the red wire rib.
  5. Dub a shaggy blaze-orange body forward, figure-8 around the eyes, and stop behind the hook eye.
  6. Counter-wrap the wire rib in 5-6 turns and tie off.
  7. Whip finish, pick out the dubbing for legs, and set the tail wraps with a drop of UV resin.
