Classic Recipe

  • Hook standard dry (Tiemco 101), 18-22
  • Thread olive 16/0 (or 14/0 Veevus)

Materials

  • Tails Brown Microfibetts, split (2)
  • Abdomen Super Hair - 2 olive + 1 brown (3 strands)
  • Thorax Olive-brown Superfine dubbing (as needed)
  • Legs Mottled brown India hen saddle fibers (small clump each side)
  • Wing Natural gray CDC (1 clump)
  • Topping White Fluoro Fiber (3 strands)
  • Head Olive-brown Superfine dubbing (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Dress the shank with thread and tie in the two brown Microfibett tails split wide with figure-eight wraps at the bend.
  2. Tie in two olive and one brown strand of Super Hair; build a slim tapered underbody back toward the tail.
  3. Twist or wrap all three Super Hair strands forward as a unit over the rear two-thirds to form a sharply segmented abdomen, then clip the excess.
  4. Dub a small olive-brown thorax ball; tie in a small clump of mottled India hen saddle on each side so the fibers reach to near the hook point for legs.
  5. Tie in a short clump of natural gray CDC on top, trimmed to about one-third to one-half the shank length, for the emerging wing.
  6. Lay three white Fluoro Fibers along the far side, wrap at center and fold back along the near side as a bright topping so you can track the fly.
  7. Dub a small head to finish the thorax, whip finish and trim.
