Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Short-shank, light-wire streamer/wet hook (Daiichi 2477-style), 1-4 (down to 8 for trout)
  • Thread Clear monofilament Danville mono

Materials

  • Marabou White marabou (1 plume (collar/wing base))
  • Bucktail (stiffener) White bucktail (Small clump)
  • Flash Lateral scale + fluorescent Crystal Flash (Small bunch each)
  • Bucktail (wing) Olive bucktail (1 clump)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (Few strands for topping)
  • Stick-on eyes Silver d eyes mm (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the short-shank hook and start the mono thread; there is no body. Work everything at the front of the short shank.
  2. Tie in white marabou around the shank and crowd it toward the eye, taking a wrap before stroking the fibers back so they distribute evenly all the way around; keep it slightly sparse for a freshwater version.
  3. Lift a small clump of white bucktail on top as a short under-wing stiffener (this keeps the marabou from wrapping the hook) and lock it with a few soft wraps.
  4. Add the flash, a few strands of lateral scale and fluorescent Crystal Flash.
  5. Tie in the olive bucktail wing on top, slightly shorter than the flash, and pick the white belly a little ragged to suggest a fat baitfish belly.
  6. Top with a few strands of peacock herl, tips aligned, sitting over the wing.
  7. Set a stick-on eye on each side with a few thread wraps, build a fairly large head, whip finish and coat with UV glue.
