Crank Shank Buzzer

Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved grub / crank-shank (Kamasan B100 style), 10-14
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Body Black ostrich herl (Tying thread, slim, UV-coated)
  • Rib Red holographic flash (Fine tinsel, 5-6 open turns)
  • Cheeks/Wing buds Orange permanent marker (Two goose biot slips)
  • Breathers White uni stretch (Small tuft Antron/poly at head)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (Thread or peacock)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook and run thread all the way down around the bend.
  2. Tie in the holographic tinsel rib at the rear.
  3. Wind thread back to the eye in smooth touching turns for a slim, glossy body. Buzzers are skinny, so no bulk.
  4. Rib forward with 5-6 evenly spaced open turns and tie off, then coat the whole body with a thin layer of UV resin for shine and durability.
  5. Tie in two short orange biot cheeks angled back at the head as wing buds.
  6. Add a small white Antron breather tuft on top at the head, then build a slim black thorax over the tie-in points.
  7. Whip finish at the eye.
