Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard saltwater, straight-eye (Mustad 34007 / TMC 811S), 2-6
- Thread Tan 6/0
Materials
- Eyes Silver metal tape (Small bead-chain)
- Antennae/Tail Tan carapace (Sparse clump craft fur, one shank length)
- Flash Pearl flashabou (4-6 strands Krystal Flash)
- Body Tan carapace (Craft fur underfur, dubbing loop)
- Carapace Clear head cement (Thin mono or scud back (optional))
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and start thread mid-shank.
- Bind bead-chain eyes on top of the shank about a third back from the eye with tight figure-8 wraps.
- At the bend, tie in a sparse clump of tan craft fur one shank length long for the antennae/tail, then add 4-6 strands of pearl flash on top.
- Spin craft fur underfur into a 3-4 inch dubbing loop and keep it sparse, half the fur you think.
- Wind the loop forward to build a tapered body, figure-8 around the eyes, and stop at the eye.
- Sweep all fibers rearward and take a few thread wraps to pin them back so the fly rides low and shrimp-like.
- Whip finish behind the hook eye and pick out a few leg fibers underneath.
