Crafty Shrimp Bendback Tan/Spawn

Classic Recipe

  • Hook bendback saltwater hook (shank kinked up), 2-6
  • Thread tan 6/0 or 210 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Bead-chain or small lead eyes (1 pair)
  • Antennae/tail Tan and pink (spawn) Krystal Flash + few strands bucktail (small bunch)
  • Legs Tan/orange rubber or Sili Legs (4-6)
  • Body Tan and spawn-pink craft-fur or EP fibre (small bunch)
  • Wing/back Tan/pearl Krystal Flash over the top (few strands)
  • Weedguard The bendback shank itself (point rides up) (-)

How to tie it

  1. On the bendback hook, tie in bead-chain or light lead eyes near the eye so the fly rides point-up and weedless.
  2. At the bend, tie in a sparse nose/antennae of tan and pink Krystal Flash and a few strands of bucktail extending past the bend.
  3. Add two or three pairs of tan/orange rubber legs splayed to the sides.
  4. Tie in a tan and spawn-pink craft-fur/EP body and sweep it back over the point (bendback keeps the wing up) to form the shrimp body and hide the hook.
  5. Lay tan/pearl Krystal Flash over the top as a back, then build a tapered head.
  6. Whip finish at the eye and cement.
