Reference Recipe
- Hook Strong saltwater hook, 2-4
- Thread Tan 140 denier
Materials
- Eyes Silver metal tape (medium lead or tungsten dumbbell)
- Antennae Tan/brown crust accent (microfibbets or pheasant tail fibers)
- Body Tan or brown material (craft fur, tapered)
- Legs Tan barred rubber legs medium (fine rubber legs)
- Shell Pearl anti static bag strip (Mylar or Ice Dub flash)
- Eyes2 Black ostrich herl (mono shrimp eyes)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and lash a dumbbell on top of the shank near the bend so the fly rides hook-point-up.
- At the bend (the shrimp's nose), tie in a few strands of antennae and a pair of mono shrimp eyes splayed out.
- Tie in a sparse bunch of craft fur and a little pearl flash for the tail/carapace over the eyes.
- Dub or spin a tapered craft-fur body forward toward the dumbbell, keeping it slim and mobile.
- Figure-8 in a couple of rubber legs each side for scurrying movement.
- Wrap the thread forward past the dumbbell, build a small head, and whip finish.
- Sweep all fibers back and trim the belly flat so it sits and pauses naturally.
