Classic Recipe

Materials

  • Body Dirty olive-brown dubbing or floss (slim)
  • Wing Cinnamon hen quill (slips)
  • Hackle Ginger hackle (sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the wet hook and run olive thread to the bend.
  2. Dub or wrap a slim dirty olive-brown body forward, stopping one-third of the shank behind the eye to leave room for the wing and hackle.
  3. Tie in a sparse ginger hen hackle and take 1-2 turns, then fold and bind the fibers back.
  4. Cut two matched slips of cinnamon hen quill, marry them dull sides together, and set them low over the body as a tent-style wing to the bend.
  5. Bind down the wing butts, build a small head, whip finish and varnish.
