  • Hook Salmon single/double, 4-10
  • Thread Red 8/0

Materials

  • Tag Silver tinsel (small)
  • Tail Olive-green floss (short strand)
  • Body Olive-green floss (smooth)
  • Rib Silver tinsel (spiral)
  • Wing Gray squirrel (sparse)
  • Hackle Lemon yellow, wound as collar (2 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the salmon hook and start red thread at the rear.
  2. Wrap a short flat silver tag over the bend, then tie in a short strand of olive-green floss as a stubby tail.
  3. Catch in oval or flat silver for the rib, then wrap the olive-green floss forward into a smooth body and tie off short of the eye.
  4. Spiral the silver rib forward in 4-5 even turns and secure.
  5. Tie in a sparse gray squirrel wing on top, extending to the end of the tail.
  6. Tie in a lemon yellow hackle by the tip and take 2 turns as a collar, then sweep the fibers back and bind down.
  7. Build the signature red head, whip finish and varnish.
