Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly hook, 14-16
  • Thread Yellow 70 denier

Materials

  • Body Pale yellow d rib larva lace (Superfine dry-fly dubbing)
  • Rib Fluorescent fire orange (fine floss)
  • Underwing Natural grey CDC (1-2 CDC feathers)
  • Overwing White uni stretch (poly yarn)
  • Collar Natural grey CDC (1 CDC feather)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread, running a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in the fluorescent orange floss rib at the bend and leave it hanging.
  3. Dub a slim pale-yellow body forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Wrap the orange floss rib forward in 4-5 open turns to segment the body, bind, and snip.
  5. Tie in one or two grey CDC feathers flat over the body as an underwing, then add a short white poly overwing as an indicator.
  6. Tie in a grey CDC feather and take 1-2 turns for a soft collar, sweeping the fibers back.
  7. Build a small head and whip finish; dress with dry shake, not gel floatant.
