How to tie it
Slide the 1/4" copper bead on and put the hook in the vise. Because the bead has a deep countersunk hole, wrap a few turns of.030 lead wire and push them up into the back of the bead so it sits straight.
Start the flat waxed nylon behind the lead and build up thread so neither the lead nor the bead can slide, then wrap back to the rear of the shank.
Tie in one dark brown goose biot along the far side of the shank, a bit shorter than the shank length, and adjust it so it splays outward; tie the second on the near side to match, giving a forked tail. Bind the butts down.
Strip the end of the black Ice Chenille to expose the core, tie the core in at the rear and take the thread up to the bead.
Wrap the chenille forward, then back about two thirds and forward again to build a cigar taper, and tie it off behind the bead.
Select a brown saddle hackle with fibers a little longer than average, strip the fluff to leave a bare stem, tie it in on top of the shank and wrap a fairly heavy collar, preening the fibers back after each turn. Tie off and trim.
Stroke all the collar fibers back and take a couple of wraps over them so they stay swept back.
Tie in the white goose biots as wings (one along each side rather than flat on top, splay facing outward) leaving a short tag end in front of each. Fold each tag back over itself and wrap over it to lock the biot in so it cannot pull out.
Trim the tag ends, whip finish and add head cement.
