Materials

  • Eyes 4mm Foam
  • Rib Medium red holo tinsel
  • Body Peacock herl
  • Wing Black marabou

How to tie it

  1. Mount the B175 with the 4mm Foam eyes already tied in behind the eye, and start the Black 8/0 thread behind them.
  2. Catch in the Medium red holo tinsel and bind it down to the end of the shank.
  3. Select two Peacock herls, pinch the tips off so they do not break, and catch them in at the back of the hook.
  4. Keeping the two herls together, wrap them forward in touching turns to just behind the eyes; bind off and snip the ends.
  5. Bring the tinsel forward in three open turns, catch it in behind the eyes and trim.
  6. Take a small pinch of Black Marabou, no more; trim the ends level and catch it in right between the eyes.
  7. Bring the thread forward and whip finish in front of the eyes.
  8. Pinch the marabou off just behind the bend so the wing is about hook length: this is a compact fly with no trailing tail.
  9. Put a drop of varnish between the eyes and one on top for protection.
