Small Palmer Chenille (or white Uni-Stretch) Pearl crystal (A short piece for the gills)
Micro Glint thread (or brown/copper wire, or two strands of 8/0 thread) Brown fine wire (One strand for the rib)
Anti-static bag strip (pre-cut chironomid cuts) Translucent anti static bag strip (One strip for the body)
UV resin Clear uv resin (A thin coat)
How to tie it
Slide the copper bead onto the hook with the wide end facing forward so it will slip over the gill material, and start the rusty brown thread with a jam knot behind the eye.
Tie the pearl chenille in at the front for the gills with a few wraps, trimming the core string off the back as close as you can.
Whip finish and snip the thread, then slide the bead forward over the gill material and trim the gills roughly even with the hook eye.
Restart the same thread behind the bead and build a slight taper at the front. The thread is very fine so it takes a good number of wraps.
Tie the brown Micro Glint rib in at the front, then tie the anti-static bag strip in on top at the front, cutting its end to a slight slant so it starts cleanly. Bind both back along the shank and return the thread to the bead.
Wind the ASB strip forward in slightly overlapping turns to the bead and tie it off (a touch of superglue under the body makes it bombproof).
Wind the rib forward in seven or eight evenly spaced turns, holding tension the whole way because it is not wire and will spring loose. Tie it off with a wrap behind, one in front and one behind again, then snip.
Whip finish a neat rusty brown collar behind the bead (about five turns, twice) and snip the thread clean.
Coat the body with thin UV resin, wiping off any excess, and cure it.
