Copper Midge

Midge · Trout · Beginner · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard curved scud/midge hook, 18-24
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Silver or copper slotted tungsten bead (small glass or tungsten)
  • Body Copper thorax stripe (extra-small copper wire)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (thread or fine dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye, mount the tiny hook, and start thread behind the bead.
  2. Bind copper wire along the shank down into the bend, keeping the underbody smooth.
  3. Wrap the copper wire forward in touching turns to just behind the bead, forming a slim segmented body; tie off and helicopter the tag.
  4. Build a small black thread thorax right behind the bead. Keep it slim, this is a midge.
  5. Whip finish and add a pinhead of head cement.
