Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-3XL curved nymph hook, 6-10
  • Thread Tan 140 denier

Materials

  • Bead Copper or gold tungsten (optional) bead (1)
  • Tails Brown goose biots, split (2)
  • Body Golden-tan/amber dubbing (as needed)
  • Back/flashback Copper wire or copper Flashabou over the shank (one section)
  • Rib Copper wire (one strand)
  • Legs Brown partridge or barred rubber legs (2 pairs)
  • Antennae Brown biots (2)

How to tie it

  1. Add a bead if using one and mount the hook. Start thread and run it to the bend.
  2. Tie in two split brown biot tails one third of a shank long, then bind in the copper wire rib and lay a strip of copper flash back along the shank for the back.
  3. Dub a tapered golden-tan body forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Pull the copper back over the top of the abdomen and counter-wrap the copper rib 5-6 evenly spaced turns to pin it and segment the body.
  5. Add a pair of legs to each side at the thorax and dub a rough golden thorax up toward the eye.
  6. Tie in two brown biot antennae angled forward over the eye, then pull any remaining copper back over the thorax as a wing case.
  7. Build a small head, whip finish, and cement.
