Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet, 10-14
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tail GP crest (small)
  • Body Black seal fur (dubbed)
  • Rib Silver oval (fine)
  • Hackle Black hen + blue jay, mixed (beard)
  • Wing Bronze mallard (rolled)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the wet hook and run black thread to above the barb.
  2. Tie in a small golden pheasant crest as a tail, curving up, then catch in fine silver oval rib.
  3. Dub a slim rope of black seal fur and wrap a tapered body forward, stopping short of the eye.
  4. Spiral the silver rib forward in 4-5 even turns and tie off.
  5. Mix black hen and blue jay fibers and tie them in as a beard under the throat, reaching to the point. The jay gives the blue glint.
  6. Roll a slim slip of bronze mallard and set it low over the body as a wing, tips to the bend.
  7. Build a neat head, whip finish and varnish.
