Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL curved nymph hook, 6-10
  • Thread Brown 140 denier

Materials

  • Cone Copper or black conehead (1)
  • Tails Brown goose biots (2, split)
  • Body Golden-brown dubbing (as needed)
  • Rib Copper wire (one strand)
  • Wing case/back Brown thin skin under UV resin (one strip)
  • Legs Brown/black rubber legs (2 pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the cone to the eye and mount the hook. Start thread and run it to the bend.
  2. Tie in two split brown biot tails one third of a shank long, then bind in the copper wire and the thin-skin back strip.
  3. Dub a tapered golden-brown body forward to the 70% mark.
  4. Pull the thin skin over the back and counter-wrap the copper rib 5-6 turns to segment and pin it, then tie off the wire.
  5. Add a pair of rubber legs to each side at the thorax and dub a rough thorax up to the cone.
  6. Coat the back and wing case with a thin layer of UV resin and cure it for a glossy shell.
  7. Build a collar behind the cone, whip finish, and cement.
