Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-3XL streamer hook, 6-10
  • Thread Fluorescent orange 140 denier

Materials

  • Cone Gold or copper conehead (1)
  • Tail Black or olive marabou (one plume)
  • Flash Pearl Krystal Flash (6 strands)
  • Body Black/olive chenille or ice dub (as needed)
  • Egg/collar Fluorescent orange or pink Estaz/egg yarn (one section)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the cone to the eye and mount the hook. Start thread and run it to the bend.
  2. Tie in a marabou tail one shank length long, with a few strands of flash to each side.
  3. Bind in the body chenille or dub a body forward to about the 75% mark.
  4. Tie in the bright egg material just behind the cone and wrap or dub it into a fat, round egg collar tight against the cone.
  5. Sweep any stray fibers back and lock the egg collar down.
  6. Build a thread collar behind the cone, whip finish, and cement.
