Reference Recipe

  • Hook Articulated streamer, two hook points, 2-4 (front) with articulated shank/rear hook
  • Thread Olive 210 denier

Materials

  • Rear tail Olive marabou + flash (2 plumes)
  • Body Olive/brown dubbing brushes + schlappen (as needed)
  • Keel weight Lead wire strips, belly (one per hook)
  • Collar Deer hair / laser dub, spun (as needed)
  • Head Spun deer hair or wool, trimmed (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. On the rear hook, tie in olive marabou plumes and flash for a tail one shank length long.
  2. Palmer a schlappen or dubbing brush forward on the rear hook, then bind lead wire along the belly as a keel so the fly tracks upright.
  3. Connect the rear hook to the front shank with braided wire loop and secure it.
  4. Build the front body with dubbing brushes and schlappen, adding a belly keel weight here too so it pushes water without somersaulting.
  5. Spin a collar of deer hair or laser dub, sweeping it back for bulk and movement.
  6. Spin and pack a deer-hair or wool head at the front, then trim it into a broad, blunt slider face.
  7. Whip finish and cement.
