Comb Over Minnow

Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Streamer hook, wide gape, 1/0-4
  • Thread White 140 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Barbell/dumbbell, painted (one pair)
  • Tail/body White and olive craft fur (stacked clumps)
  • Flash Pearl Krystal Flash (a few strands)
  • Topping Olive/gray craft fur (one clump)
  • Head UV resin over combed fibers (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread. Figure-8 the barbell eyes near the front on top of the shank.
  2. At the rear, stack a sparse clump of white craft fur for the tail and belly, keeping the profile long and thin.
  3. Add a few strands of pearl flash, then reverse-tie and fold additional craft fur to build a slim tapered body up the shank.
  4. Top the body with an olive or gray clump for the back, blending a baitfish color scheme.
  5. Comb the fibers back and, with the fly wet, sweep them around and over the eyes, then lock the head fibers down with a thin coat of UV resin so they lie tapered and slick.
  6. Cure the resin, build a small head, and whip finish.
