Colby's Pig Farm Shrimp

Shrimp · Bonefish · Redfish · Sea Trout · Snook · Permit · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Stainless saltwater hook, 2-4
  • Thread Tan 140 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Barbell/dumbbell (one pair)
  • Antennae Tan/pearl Krystal Flash or bucktail (a few strands)
  • Legs Barred tan rubber legs (2-3 pairs)
  • Body Tan/pearl dubbing or EP (as needed)
  • Shellback Pearl flash / clear over body (one section)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread. Figure-8 the barbell eyes near the bend on top so the fly rides point-up.
  2. At the rear, tie in tan/pearl antennae extending one and a half shank lengths past the bend.
  3. Add barred rubber legs splayed at the tail base for a leggy, kicking profile.
  4. Dub a tan/pearl body forward to behind the eyes, keeping the taper shrimp-like.
  5. Pull a pearl shellback over the top and rib it down with a couple of thread turns for segmentation.
  6. Figure-8 around the eyes, build a small head, and whip finish. Cast to cruising redfish and bonefish, let it drop, and hop it off the bottom in short strips like a fleeing shrimp.
