  • Hook 60-degree jig hook or jig head, 1/0-2
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Head Painted lead/tungsten jig head or slotted bead (1, heavy)
  • Tail Purple marabou (2 plumes)
  • Flash Black/blue Krystal Flash (6-8 strands)
  • Body Black estaz/cactus chenille (one strand)
  • Collar Purple schlappen (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the heavy jig head at the eye and start thread on the shank behind it.
  2. Tie in two purple marabou plumes for a tail one and a half shank lengths long, keeping it full but not bulky.
  3. Add a few strands of black-blue flash over the tail, trimmed to tail length.
  4. Bind in the estaz at the tail and wrap the thread forward to just behind the head.
  5. Palmer the estaz forward in touching turns to build a fat body, tie off, and snip.
  6. Tie in the schlappen by the tip and take 3-4 turns as a webby collar, sweeping fibers back, then tie off.
  7. Build a thread collar behind the head and whip finish.
