Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook streamer/nymph hook (Daiichi 2220), 4-8
  • Thread brown 6/0

Materials

  • Cone Black conehead, medium or large (1)
  • Weight Lead wire .020-.030 (8-12 wraps)
  • Tail Tan or brown blood-quill marabou (one shank length)
  • Flash Copper or root beer Krystal Flash (6-8 strands)
  • Body Gold ice dub (1 dubbing loop)
  • Belly Pearl ice dub (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the black cone to the eye, then wrap 8-12 turns of lead wire behind it and shove them into the back of the cone to lock it and add weight.
  2. Start thread behind the lead and tie in a tan/brown marabou tail one shank length long.
  3. Tie in copper or root beer Krystal Flash over the tail, extending it just past the marabou.
  4. Build the body by spinning gold Ice Dub in a loose dubbing loop and wrapping forward in touching turns to the cone.
  5. Pick out a pinch of pearl Ice Dub and fold it under the shank as a flashy belly.
  6. Whip finish behind the cone and rough up the dubbing with a brush so it flares and pulses in the water.
