Classic Recipe

  • Hook streamer/nymph hook (Daiichi 2220), 4-8
  • Thread brown 6/0

Materials

  • Cone Black conehead (CH), medium or large (1)
  • Weight Lead wire .020-.030 (8-12 wraps)
  • Tail Olive, white, or tan blood-quill marabou (one shank length)
  • Flash Copper or root beer Krystal Flash (6-8 strands)
  • Body Gold ice dub (1 dubbing loop)
  • Belly Pearl ice dub (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the conehead to the eye, wrap 8-12 turns of lead wire behind it, and jam the wraps into the cone to seat it and add weight.
  2. Start thread and tie in a marabou tail one shank length long in your chosen sculpin color.
  3. Tie in 6-8 strands of copper or root beer Krystal Flash over the tail.
  4. Spin gold Ice Dub into a dubbing loop and wrap a full, buggy body forward to the cone.
  5. Fold a pinch of pearl Ice Dub under the shank for a bright belly.
  6. Whip finish behind the cone and brush the body out so it breathes.
