Coffey's CH Sparkle Minnow JJ

Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook streamer/nymph hook (Daiichi 2220), 4-8
  • Thread black or brown 6/0

Materials

  • Cone Black conehead (CH), medium or large (1)
  • Weight Lead wire .020-.030 (8-12 wraps)
  • Tail Black over yellow blood-quill marabou (JJ colors) (one shank length)
  • Flash Copper or gold Krystal Flash (6-8 strands)
  • Body Gold ice dub (1 dubbing loop)
  • Belly Pearl ice dub (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the cone to the eye, wrap 8-12 turns of lead behind it, and seat them in the cone for weight.
  2. Tie in a marabou tail one shank length long, layering yellow under black so it echoes the classic JJ (galloup) color scheme.
  3. Add 6-8 strands of copper or gold Krystal Flash over the tail.
  4. Dub a full gold Ice Dub body forward to the cone in a dubbing loop.
  5. Fold pearl Ice Dub under the shank for a bright belly, then whip finish behind the cone.
  6. Brush the body out so the black-over-yellow profile pulses and flashes.
