Tarpon

Materials

  • Tail Grizzly hackle (6 feathers, splayed)
  • Body Brown thread or dubbing (sparse)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (2-3 wraps)
  • Head Brown thread (neat)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the tarpon hook, start thread at the rear third.
  2. Tie in six grizzly hackles at the bend, paired and splayed outward. The splayed tips kick and swim on the strip.
  3. Wrap a sparse body of brown thread or dubbing.
  4. Wrap 2-3 turns of grizzly collar in front and sweep it back.
  5. Wrap the bare front shank smooth, build a neat head, whip finish, lacquer heavily.
