How to tie it
Seat the 3.2mm copper slotted bead against the jig eye and start the brown 70D behind it, running a thin base back to the start of the bend.
Tie in a single strand of brown micro flexi-floss across the shank at the bend and pull both ends back to form a split pair of tails about half a shank long. Stoneflies carry two stubby tails, and splitting them with a figure-eight is what stops them collapsing into one.
Dub a slim rusty brown abdomen from the bend forward to the 60% mark, keeping it tight so the fly stays narrow at the back.
Tie in two more strands of micro flexi-floss at the 60% mark, one each side, so they stick out at right angles for legs. On a small stonefly these legs are the trigger and they need to be visible from below.
Dub a noticeably fatter thorax over the leg tie-in forward to the bead, then trim the legs to about a hook gap either side.
Whip finish behind the bead, pick out a few fibers from the thorax underneath, and touch Bone Dry on the thread wraps at the tail and behind the bead only.
