Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer hook, 1-4
  • Thread Olive 140 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Lead (dumbbell (rides hook-up))
  • Belly Cream/white material (bucktail, sparse)
  • Flash Gold flashabou (few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Wing Brown over olive/green (bucktail)
  • Bars Dark brown fur (marker, vertical)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread; lash a lead dumbbell at the 75% mark so the hook rides point-up.
  2. Tie a sparse cream-white bucktail belly behind the eye, angled forward over the eyes, one and a half shanks long.
  3. Flip the hook and add a few strands of gold flash.
  4. Layer a band of olive-green bucktail, then a brown topping, for a dark-backed baitfish profile.
  5. Wrap a smooth head, whip finish, and snip.
  6. Add faint vertical bars along the flank with a brown marker to mimic a juvenile smallmouth.
