Clouser Mini-Sunfish

Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Largemouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-3XL streamer hook, 4-8
  • Thread Olive 140 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Lead (small dumbbell (rides hook-up))
  • Belly Orange/yellow material (bucktail, sparse)
  • Flash Gold/copper flash (few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Wing Olive over gold (bucktail)
  • Bars Dark permanent marker (marker, vertical)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread; lash a small lead dumbbell at the 75% mark so the hook rides point-up.
  2. Tie a sparse orange-into-yellow bucktail belly behind the eye, angled forward over the dumbbell, about one and a half shanks long.
  3. Flip the hook and add a few strands of gold or copper flash.
  4. Tie a thin band of gold bucktail, then a slim olive topping over it, so the fly reads dark-over-light like a small bluegill.
  5. Wrap a neat head, whip finish, and snip.
  6. Draw a few short vertical bars along the wing with a marker to suggest a sunfish flank.
