Materials
Eyes Painted lead dumbbell eyes, sized to hook (1 pair)
Belly White bucktail (1 clump)
Flash Gold or pearl Krystal Flash (few strands)
Back Chartreuse (or color of choice) bucktail (1 clump)
How to tie it
Lay a thread base and lash the lead dumbbell eyes on top of the shank about one-third back from the eye with tight figure-eight wraps and a drop of cement. The eyes make the fly ride hook-point-up and give the deep, jigging action.
Just behind the hook eye, tie in a clump of white bucktail by the butts so it lies along the belly (which becomes the top once the fly flips over), about 2.5-3 hook lengths long.
Wrap back over the bucktail to behind the eyes, then bring thread in front of the eyes and fold/secure the bucktail so it straddles the eyes.
Add a few strands of gold Krystal Flash the length of the wing.
In front of the eyes, tie in a matching clump of chartreuse bucktail as the back, flowing over the top.
Build a smooth, tapered thread head, whip finish and coat with head cement or epoxy for durability.
The weighted eyes sink the fly fast and let it dive-and-dart on the strip.
