Tie in heavy painted dumbbell eyes on top of the shank, one-third back from the hook eye. Figure-8s, cinching wraps beneath, then glue. Saltwater fish will find any weakness.
Tie in sparse white bucktail ahead of the eyes and bind it down behind them along the shank.
Flip the hook point-up.
Add 8-10 strands of Krystal Flash, then sparse chartreuse or olive bucktail as the back.
Sparse throughout. You should see through the wet fly. Build a tapered head, whip finish, cement hard.
Substitutions
Belly instead of White bucktail: White EP Fibers — Sheds water, easier casting; White craft fur — Softer movement
Back instead of Chartreuse or olive bucktail: Olive EP Fibers — Synthetic alternative; Tan bucktail — Sand eel / goby color; Blue bucktail — Herring/bluefish baitfish
Eyes instead of Lead dumbbell eyes: Tungsten dumbbell — Heaviest for deepest water; Painted lead eyes — Adds color to head area
