Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-3XL streamer hook, 4-8
  • Thread Olive 140 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Bead chain or small lead (dumbbell (rides hook-up))
  • Antennae Olive-brown material (2 rubber strands)
  • Claws Olive ostrich herl (craft fur split into two)
  • Body Olive-brown material (brushed dubbing)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (wire, 4-5 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread; lash bead-chain or small dumbbell eyes a third of a shank back so the point rides up.
  2. Tie in two rubber antennae at the bend, pointing forward past the eye.
  3. Split a small clump of olive craft fur into two claws and tie them splayed at the bend.
  4. Tie in the copper rib, then dub a compact, brushed olive-brown body forward to the eyes.
  5. Counter-wrap the rib forward in 4-5 turns to segment the body and tie off.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and snip; brush the body buggy. Hop this smaller crayfish along the bottom for trout, smallmouth, and panfish.
