Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer hook, 2-6
  • Thread Tan 140 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Lead (medium dumbbell (mounted to ride hook-up))
  • Antennae Brown permanent marker (2 rubber or Krystal Flash strands)
  • Claws Olive/tan heads (grizzly hackle tips or craft fur)
  • Body Tan/olive carapace (dubbing or chenille, brushed)
  • Shellback Mottled thin skin (Thin Skin or turkey, over the top)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (wire, 4-5 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread; lash a lead dumbbell a third of a shank back from the eye so the hook rides point-up and the claws sweep forward.
  2. At the bend, tie in two rubber antennae pointing forward, then a splayed pair of claws (grizzly tips or craft fur) flanking them.
  3. Tie in a length of shellback material and the copper rib at the bend.
  4. Dub or wrap a full tan-olive body forward to just behind the eye, brushing it buggy.
  5. Pull the shellback over the back, then counter-wrap the copper rib forward in 4-5 turns to segment it and lock it down; tie off.
  6. Build a small head behind the eye, whip finish, and snip.
