Clear Wing Spinner Trico

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly hook, 20-24
  • Thread Black 14/0

Materials

  • Tail White uni stretch (3-4 microfibetts, split)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (thread or fine dubbing)
  • Wings Clear head cement (poly yarn, tied spent)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (fine dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the tiny hook and start thread; tie in three or four white microfibetts and split them wide over a micro dubbing ball for the spent tail.
  2. Build a slim black abdomen with thread or a whisper of dubbing forward to the 60% mark.
  3. Tie in a small clump of clear poly across the shank and figure-8 it into flat spent wings.
  4. Dub a small black thorax around the wing base to lock the wings flush.
  5. Whip finish with a tiny head and snip. Keep everything sparse, half the material you think, on a fly this small.
