Clear Wing Spinner Hex

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry fly hook, 6-8
  • Thread Yellow 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Cream/ginger material (3 microfibetts, split)
  • Body Pale yellow d rib larva lace (dubbing or extended foam)
  • Wings Clear head cement (poly yarn / organza, tied spent)
  • Thorax Pale yellow d rib larva lace (dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread; tie in three cream microfibetts at the bend and split them wide over a small dubbing ball for a spent tail.
  2. Dub a slim, pale-yellow abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  3. Tie in a clump of clear poly across the shank and figure-8 it into flat, outstretched spent wings, one to each side.
  4. Split the wings evenly and set them flush with the water plane.
  5. Dub a slightly heavier thorax around the wing base to lock it flat, stopping short of the eye.
  6. Whip finish and snip.
