Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer hook, 4-10
  • Thread Black 140 denier

Materials

  • Weight Lead-free (.020 wire, 10-12 wraps (optional))
  • Tail Black ostrich herl (marabou plume, one shank long)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (chenille)
  • Hackle Black hackle (one saddle feather, palmered)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread; if weighting, add 10-12 wraps of.020 lead-free wire over the middle and lock it down.
  2. Tie in a black marabou tail at the bend, one shank length long. No flash on this one, keep it clean.
  3. Strip the fluff from a black saddle hackle and tie it in by the tip at the bend, then tie in the chenille.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward into a full body, stopping a full eye-length behind the eye.
  5. Palmer the hackle forward in five or six evenly spaced turns over the body and tie off at the front.
  6. Build a small head, whip finish, and snip.
