Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gap bass bug / stinger hook, 1/0-4
  • Thread Olive 210 denier flat waxed nylon

Materials

  • Legs Green/yellow rubber legs (2 pairs round rubber legs)
  • Body Green over white (spun deer hair (green back, white belly))
  • Weed guard Clear weed guard (mono loop (optional))
  • Eyes Yellow/black material (melted mono or plastic doll eyes)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the bend; if you want a weed guard, tie in a mono loop now.
  2. Tie in two pairs of rubber legs at the bend, splayed like a frog's kick. Trim later once the body is trimmed.
  3. Spin a bundle of white deer hair for the belly, then stack a green bundle on top; pack each back hard before adding the next.
  4. Continue spinning green over white, packing tight, until the shank is full to a quarter-shank behind the eye; whip finish and remove from the vise.
  5. Trim the spun hair to a broad frog shape (flat bottom, rounded green back, narrowing toward the head) leaving the belly white.
  6. Add melted-mono or stick-on eyes high on the head.
