Classic Buzzer Crisp
Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Classic Recipe
- Hook Curved buzzer/grub hook (Kamasan B100), 10-14
- Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)
Materials
- Body Black thread or goose biot (as needed)
- Rib Fine silver or pearl tinsel/wire (1 length)
- Cheeks/spot Colored (red, orange or yellow) thread or Glo-Brite 'spot' (small tag each side)
- Breathers White Antron or poly (small tufts)
- Coating UV resin (the 'crisp' finish) (as needed)
How to tie it
- Lay a slim, smooth thread base around the curve of the hook for the classic buzzer profile.
- Tie in the tinsel rib at the rear, then form a slim tapered black body up to the thorax.
- Counter-rib the tinsel forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns for segmentation.
- Add small colored cheeks/spots (red, orange or yellow) at the head as the trigger 'spot'.
- Tie in short tufts of white Antron for the breathing filaments (gills).
- Whip finish, then coat the whole body in a smooth, glassy layer of UV resin, the 'crisp' finish, for a shiny, hard, gassy look and durability.
- Keep the body slim so it sinks fast and looks natural.
