Classic Buzzer Crisp

Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Curved buzzer/grub hook (Kamasan B100), 10-14
  • Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Body Black thread or goose biot (as needed)
  • Rib Fine silver or pearl tinsel/wire (1 length)
  • Cheeks/spot Colored (red, orange or yellow) thread or Glo-Brite 'spot' (small tag each side)
  • Breathers White Antron or poly (small tufts)
  • Coating UV resin (the 'crisp' finish) (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a slim, smooth thread base around the curve of the hook for the classic buzzer profile.
  2. Tie in the tinsel rib at the rear, then form a slim tapered black body up to the thorax.
  3. Counter-rib the tinsel forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns for segmentation.
  4. Add small colored cheeks/spots (red, orange or yellow) at the head as the trigger 'spot'.
  5. Tie in short tufts of white Antron for the breathing filaments (gills).
  6. Whip finish, then coat the whole body in a smooth, glassy layer of UV resin, the 'crisp' finish, for a shiny, hard, gassy look and durability.
  7. Keep the body slim so it sinks fast and looks natural.
