Materials

  • Tail Claret hackle fibers (small bunch)
  • Rib Fine gold wire (fine)
  • Body Claret seal's fur or wool (dubbed)
  • Hackle Claret hen hackle (1)
  • Wing Dark slate duck quill or bronze mallard (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in the claret tail at the bend, half a shank length.
  2. Tie in the gold wire, then dub a slim claret body to the 70% mark.
  3. Counter-rib with 4-5 turns of wire to lock the dubbing.
  4. Wind 2-3 turns of claret hen hackle and sweep it back as a throat.
  5. Set the dark wing slips low over the body and whip finish.
