Materials

  • Tail Claret hackle fibers (small bunch)
  • Rib Flat gold tinsel (fine)
  • Body Claret floss (tapered)
  • Hackle Claret hen hackle (1)
  • Wing Dark mottled turkey quill slips (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in the claret tail at the bend, half a shank length.
  2. Tie in the gold rib and wrap a smooth claret floss body to the 70% mark.
  3. Rib with 4-5 open turns of tinsel.
  4. Wind 2-3 turns of claret hen hackle and pull it down as a throat.
  5. Set matched dark mottled turkey wings low over the body and whip finish a black head.
