How to tie it
Form the silkworm gut eye at the tip of the blind eye hook, cement it, razor the ends to a taper and build over them.
Lay the tag with Uni-Mylar tied green side up so the red shows, wrapped forward over a smooth base and secured back at the gut. Set the Amherst crest tail on top, cement and build the thread over it.
Cut a belly-shaped notch in the flat tinsel with curved scissors before mounting the three-part rib. The notch lets the tinsel start flush at the tag with no step.
Run the gold embossed tinsel up once to find where the second rib falls and mark it. That mark is where the heron goes in, so the spey hackle sits behind the rib rather than under it.
Fold and mount two dyed red heron hackles and one dyed yellow at the mark, then park them with a turn of lead wire at the gut eye while you dub.
Spin claret seal's fur in a split thread, brush it out and wrap it behind the heron, then free the heron, pull its fibers back and continue the dubbing forward to just short of the eye.
Pull the heron forward, pin it with a thread wrap and lay the three ribs in (flat tinsel, red oval, then gold embossed) freeing the heron as you pass it. Wrap the spey hackles one at a time tight to the gold, add the third heron and a folded teal as collars, then marry a two-strand red and green turkey and bustard wing, mount it tent style with even tension, add jungle cock below each wing and finish with a black head and epoxy.
